How to Research a Solana Token Before a Swap
Start with the token's full mint address, not its logo or ticker. Then distinguish what can be verified on-chain from what an issuer says, what a wallet indexes and what a trading interface currently quotes.

1. Identify the token and its controls
A Solana mint uniquely identifies a token and records fields including supply, decimals, mint authority and freeze authority. A token name is not a unique identifier. Compare the complete address between the issuer's website, an explorer and the wallet route before considering a signature.
A removed mint authority limits future minting for that mint; it does not establish fair distribution, future demand or safe trading. Inspect the actual token program and any applicable extensions or transfer restrictions, rather than assuming every Solana token behaves identically.

2. Separate supply, circulation and ownership
Original issuance, current total supply and circulating supply describe different things. Burns can reduce current supply. Vesting and treasury exclusions can produce a project-defined circulation estimate, but that estimate is not automatically independently verified free float.
Inspect large holders and group addresses by known control. Several wallets belonging to one project are not several independent investors. Identify pool vaults, vesting escrows and treasury accounts before interpreting concentration, and disclose uncertain ownership instead of treating it as decentralisation.

3. Inspect liquidity and the exit route
A pool's existence is not proof that a particular trade will execute. Obtain fresh buy and sell quotes for the intended amount. Review minimum received, fees, expected price impact and route availability. Slippage tolerance is a transaction limit, not an assurance of good execution.
Check which LP asset or position is locked, the share covered, the beneficiary and release terms. A liquidity lock does not prevent public token holders selling. Shallow liquidity can make the displayed value of a holding very different from its realisable proceeds.

4. Ask what the token actually does
Separate working software, proposed token utility, customer adoption and investor rights. They need different evidence. A functioning API does not by itself create demand for its associated token; a roadmap is not deployed utility.
PVTY is PactVerity's token, while the public Proof Engine and Receipt API evaluate supplied service evidence. Public product evaluation requires no PVTY purchase. Planned staking and settlement roles are not deployed, and token ownership is not company equity or a right to revenue.

5. Make uncertainty visible
Write down the source, date and limitation for each finding. When an RPC, price feed or route check is unavailable, the answer is unknown—not the last favourable value. Tracker metadata approval is not an independent security audit or an investment endorsement.
Do not send funds to private support accounts or disclose recovery phrases. A valid-looking website, a fixed supply or a popular chat cannot rule out total loss. Use the evidence to decide whether further research is needed; no checklist makes a speculative asset safe.
Sources and further research
Shallow liquidity, high volatility and possible total loss. No guaranteed value or resale.
